Looking Back: March 2010
The College’s Outdoor Education Program was established to acquaint prospective teachers with life in the open. Were you one of the students who took part? We’d love to hear your story.
“Come forth into the light of things / Let Nature be your teacher.” Perhaps these lines, written by William Wordsworth, were echoing in the minds of the students pictured here taking part in the College’s Outdoor Education Program. The photo comes from a 1960s Undergraduate Bulletin, and according to College documents from the time, all juniors were required to quit their books for a one-week sojourn in Stokes State Forest’s School of Conservation. “The objectives of the program are to acquaint prospective teachers with life in the open, to discover aspects of nature study they would not otherwise experience, to relate their campus study to the outdoor laboratory, to enjoy out-of-door activities, and to perceive the values of outdoor experience for their future pupils.” If you were one of the many who took part, we’d love to hear your story.
